Sis. Janet Jackson reveals shocking news on Oprah !!
by ShirleyW inwhen oprah asked if the kids were being raised jw and she knew that jdubs don't celebrate b'days and holidays, janet gave the shocking news that (i'd advise all with heart and medical conditions to take a seat now) she said that yes the children do (as ins always) celebrate there b'day and holidays.
the horror, i'm so totally shocked and stunned!!
you mean a poor family from gary, indiana hit the big time, and although the mother was a jw and the dad was not, and the kids were signed to million dollar contracts while in their teens .

I think the kids will be ok. They’re surrounded by enough non-witnesses to be able to have a relatively normal childhood – as normal as a Jackson childhood can be, anyway.

A question for all JWs, regarding women
by dgp inmy reason to ask this question was another thread by highdose, on whether people felt sorry for subjugated women in the organization.. with all the advances that women have undoubtedly made, is there any well-hidden anger among the sisters, for the role they have to play?
are there any complaints about it?
do you see the society responding to those complaints as, say, the catholic church sort of has, by allowing women to give the host at mass?

I’d say there’s a LOT of repressed anger among the women in the cong. Particularly those who say, go out in the service as pioneers, and may have better knowledge of what map is suitable for whatever the circumstances are for that day eg flat territory for older sisters or those with prams, and then Bro WitnessOnceAWeek comes along and tells them they’re all wrong and tells them to do a map with hills!
The pioneer sisters can “suggest” that a flatter map would be better, but if they make any objections, they will be reminded that they need to be “in subjection” to the brother in charge!
Not to mention the lack of status a sister can have in a congregation, especially if they are single. And I was single with no family in the local congregation, so sometimes the brothers would deem themselves as being in the position to tell me what I what to do. Never mind that I was working full-time, had been living on my own since I was 19, and was reasonably more intelligent than the cleaners telling me what to do! Although at first it was intimidating, I soon realised that unless they were paying my bills, they weren’t in any position to be bossing me around.
As far as anything organised, no, it would be impossible for anything like that to happen on a large scale. To do so, would be risking chastisement from the elders (men) and no doubt their husbands, if they are typical dub husbands. The only way a sister could demand equality would be more likely in the privacy of their homes, where they can make life hell for their husband if they want to!

Your original post indicates you have a problem with people who need to take anti-depressants.

No worries, Asilentone – now I understand the meaning behind your name.
And your post makes a nice change from the endless memorial threads we’ve had!

(The grammar on this site is appalling.)
Are you asking what to sprinkle on the top of your potato salad? How about some parsley (too boring?) or bacon bits (hope no one is Jewish) or if you like a bit of spice in your life, how about some Mexican spices?

Here, take a valium….
The mother is only one of many family members of the Jackson family. Although she may be a JW herself, I have no doubt Mrs Jackson has learnt to compromise in order to keep the family happy. And having so many uncles and aunties, the Jackson children would be surrounded by people who, in one way or another, would be celebrating the kids’ birthdays.

I would rather the pilot to be taking anti-depressants than not taking them.
Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation about people who have depression. Many can be successfully treated with anti-depressants and they can go on to enjoy productive lives.
There’s no difference between a pilot taking medication for depression and a pilot taking medication for asthma. Both are conditions which can be treated with modern medicine.

Those Crazy JW "older" men !
by man in black inthis morning i took my wife out for breakfast, and we ran into an old jw friend who was an elder for years.. i was slightly taken back when he approached us ( we are both da' ed) and he started talking about the memorial,, not.
"how are you, or whats new" just ramroded memorial crap, andstarted to tell us the juicy local gossip .
there was a ultra- straight po from the cary ill. hall who left his wife,,, moved in with another elder and his wife,, became inactive, and ignored everyone who was a jw.. talk about a complete mind shift !.

Ah, Scott, the memorial’s been and gone. The breakfast happened “this morning”.
MIB, Maybe the old guy didn’t know what to say to you so just said whatever jumped into his brain, which happened to be the latest congregation gossip!
Hope you had a nice breakfast.
